Rice Agricolture, Alto Vercellese, northern Italy

Rice grows in the spring, irrigated by dozens of canals drinking in the Sesia and Ticino. Here, between Vercelli and Novara, about 50 percent of Italian rice production is grown (source: Ente Nazionale Risi). Together with Lomellina, in Lombardy, the two provinces form a triangle with golden grains. They are lands of water far from the canonical tourist itineraries. Yet they know how to amaze, with the checkered sea reflecting clouds and sky from April to May and becoming a very green lawn from June onwards.
